Meet Jamie Truba-Whaley
Licensed Massage Therapist / Certified Cupping Therapist
My first massage took place in 1990 after running a 10k race in New York City. (I was the Event Manager for Brooks Athletic Shoes at the time, and it allowed me to attend various races throughout the country.) It was a career and life-changing hour of bliss. I was amazed at the effect it had on my recovery from the race, and the overall sense of well-being which I maintained long after.
In June, 1994, I graduated from the Health Enrichment Center in Lapeer, Michigan, with a 1,000-hour Certificate in Therapeutic Massage. (A sincere thank you to Sandy Fritz for sharing her extensive knowledge and expertise.) This certificate includes training in a myriad of techniques, many of which are outlined in the 'Techniques' section of this website. I thoroughly enjoy providing general relaxation sessions, although most patients come in presenting areas of specific pain and dysfunction. Massage sessions are then tailored around releasing and normalizing those areas.
In March 2018, I became a Certified Cupping Therapist with further advanced training taken in June 2019, and additional training planned withing the next year. I've also recently chosen to pursue more in-depth training and focus on breathing (course work by Leon Chaitow, ND, DO). Breathing is a process which is so automatic and basic that it is easy to underestimate the way our lives shape our breaths and our breaths shape our lives. I am looking forward to incorporating this training into my sessions as a general help as well as a specific focus.
I'm fortunate not to have a 'job'; I do work that I love and am honored to have the privilege of serving each of my clients, new and long-standing. I'm grateful for the trust they put in me, and I strive to provide my personal and professional best with each session. If after looking through this site you have further questions, and if you are scheduling your first massage, please feel free to contact me for more information on how to prepare for your session.
